Miami First then back to the House - Jan's Report

We had the alarm set for 4am and it was still quite a job to get the gang up and ready for the taxi collecting us at 5am for our flight to Miami. But I managed it and we were soon waiting in the departure lounge for our flight along with a couple of celebs - someone called John Jackson ( I think) - Connor says he is cool) and Ruby Wax and family. Had a very uneventful flight and were through Miami in a jiffy and sitting on the beach in Deerfield in no time. Did no really do much else but chill out and have a few cocktails before hitting the sack.

Monday 22nd
Well today was planned out great but did not go according to plan. Boys wanted to hit the local skate park so off we went with boards in the car. Found the park no problem but were told that due to council cutbacks it was only open at weekends. Boys not too impressed but we thought we would drive up to Jupiter beach instead do some surfing. Bad idea! We found the beach - or rather what was left of it after a storm had blown the rest away last year.

So we thought while we were there we would tour the Jupiter lighthouse and museum - nope, it is not open on Mondays. By this time the troops had had enough so we drive back to base and had a swim in the pool and a soak in the hot tub. Another early night as we were getting up early to see the launch of the shuttle tomorrow.

Tuesday 23rd
Up at 6am and loaded in the car for the 3hour drive to Cocoa beach. Arrived with an hour to spare so got the boys kitted out with their surf boards and then settled down on the beach to watch the launch. All went according to plan, however Lee was not very well at all and slept the entire day under a beach umbrella and towel. Boys had a great time in the surf and then we drove the 3 hours back again.

Wednesday 24th
Pretty uneventful as Lee is still not well. Took the chaps to Sawgrass Mills for some retail therapy and Sam had a great time at Wanadoo City. It is like a theme park based around jobs and real life. Look it up on the internet - well worth a visit. Anyway Looks like it is another early night and hoping that Lee will be better tomorrow so we can hit South Beach. Bye for now

Thursday 25th Oct 07
Lee was feeling ever so slightly better and the sun was out a little so we hopped in the car and drove down to South Beach. Have to say the beach was very quiet and after a stroll along the boardwalk the boys were bored. Youngest was also complaining that he was tired and needed a sit down. So we headed back to the street and found a very funky Burger King where the boys stocked up on milkshake before declaring that " we should not come to Miami again!" Lee was also beginning to flag again so we went back to the car where I produced a map and after stopping a couple of times to ask directions managed to navigate to the MIA Skate park ( an indoor skate park luckily as the heavens opened again) Boys where very happy as they could have a skate and Lee could get some pics. I meanwhile curled up with a book in the chill room ( yes I had come prepared) and waited for a couple of hours while they boys skated to their hearts content. Boys cheered up we headed back to Deerfield.

Friday 26th Oct 07
Well Youngest son was determined to visit Wanadoo city again so we piled into the car and went back to the Sawgrass Mill where he booked himself in while the rest of us had some retail therapy. There are some great stores in the Mills but not really any bargains. We decided we would wait for Vans Outlet next week. We also decided that as our guests had had their flights changed and were leaving a day early we would abandon Deerfield a day early and head "home" tomorrow.
Collected youngest son who today had been a Policeman, fireman, storekeeper and dentist amongst other things and had earned himself over 1500 wonga ( which he deposited in the Wanadoo City bank for next time ) and headed home to pack.

Saturday 27th Oct 07
Were up bright and breezy and loaded up the cases into the car and were soon driving the Turnpike home. Soon the sun was out and K92fm was back on the air. After a very smooth journey we pulled onto the drive and unloaded the car. The boys could not wait for us to unpack but insisted that we go straight over to Vans Skatepark. This worked great as they skated while we unpacked and headed to Walmart for supplies. It was great to be home. 4 Hours later we collected the boys who had had a fantastic time and came back to the pool for a swim and a soak in the Hot Tub.

The next week really flew by with the boys back on home turf they were happier. They went to Vans a few times and also the Orlando Watersports Park where they spent 3 whole days perfecting their wakeboarding skills. We did fit in one day at Blizzard beach, although this was the only Disney type thing we did all trip. Lee and I meanwhile spent most of our week doing villa owner stuff that you really don't want to hear about but I enjoyed all the same.

We also managed to catch up with a couple of friends I also had a whale of a time decorating the outside of the house for Halloween and dishing out the sweeties to the children.

All too soon it was Monday 5th and time to head home and here I am now trying to fight off the jetlag whilst typing this.

Well I hope it was not too boring for you. Will try to be more exciting at New Year Bye for now!!

Here is Connor's Montage for his trip :-)
